Screen Shots

This page briefly shows the stages involved in making a 3D object (observed as a wireframe) into a solid looking object situated on a realistic looking backdrop. This will be demonstrated with a drawing of a chair.

The initial 3D drawing of the chair is shown opposite
Although the object is a true 3D model stored in the computer
it appears as a wireframe drawing. This is partly because it is easier
for the computer to manipulate the model in this way and partly
because it wouldn't be possible to edit the drawing if it
were seen as a solid

This image shows the chair rendered as a solid
with no background.

This is 3 planes placed perpendicular to each other
setup as two walls and a floor. The walls are rendered
in one material and the floor in another.
The chair is now rendered with an Ash wood finish
and placed against the background.

The final touch is to add a light source which is located
outside of the picture. The light source can have a defned
intensity and direction. The computer calculates where and
how the shawo(s) will fall, and how big they would be.
