1050:    First use of movable type to print books in China.
1054:    Chinese astronomers witness the supernova explosion that created the Crab Nebula.  This explosion is temporarly brighter than Venus, being visible in daylight for 23 days.

1060s

1066:    William of Normandy defeats Harold at the Battle of Hasting.   Large comet (now known to be a visit of Halley's comet) seen.

1070s.

1086:    Domesday Book.

1090s

1099:    Jerusalam falls to the Crusaders.
