My Favourite Escher images are 'Waterfall' Lithograph, October 1961 and 'Ascending & Descending Lithograph, March 1960.
I like these two as they contradict what you are actually observing. In 'Waterfall' the water is apparently going up hill, whereas the walls that contain the water are gradually going down. In practice this is IMPOSSIBLE and yet it seems possible when you look at the picture.
There are far too many images to keep on
this web site, but there are many sites on the web which contain large numbers
of his work. I have however compiled a selection of Optical Illusions,
many of these can be drawn and reproduced quite simply, not only are they fascinating
but seem to defy the laws of geometry.
