Introduction

Cheers is a very funny TV comedy set in a bar in Boston. Most of the episodes revolve around the thoughts and lives of the regulars.Sign Outside CheersThe bar is owned by Sam Malone who used to be a famous baseball player. He is assisted behind the bar by 'Coach' who has gone a bit senile over the years but is a much loved character. Sam has two main waitresses - 'Diane' who just can't help interfering and having an opinion about EVERYTHING. Sams other waitress is 'Carla' who only has to look at a gorgeous guy and then claims that she can feel kicking in her stomach.

Sam at the barThe regulars at Cheers include 'Norm' who is a permanent fixture at one corner of the bar, his alleged buddy is 'Cliff' who works for the postal service.  Cliff is usually FULL of useless and unimportant facts which he insists telling everybody about.Norm & Cliff

Cheers was first broadcast back in 1982, I remember watching the programme when I was still quite young  It was usually screened every Friday night at around 10.00pm on CH4. At that particular time I was too young to understand or appreciate just how well written the scripts were, but now I'm older I find it very entertaining and can't resist watching whenever I know it going to be shown.

Song Lyrics

Theme "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" was written
by Judy Hart and Gary Portnoy, performed by Gary Portnoy.

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away.
Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name.
And their always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see, your troubles are all the same.
You wanna be where everybody knows your name.
You wanna go where people know, people are all the same.
You wanna go where everybody knows your name.
